It’s a very personal thing of course, but I would certainly try both the KB Sax necks and Selmer necks. You may find something that gives you what you’re looking for. Kim Bock is a bit of a Trane scholar having written books about him so if anyone can recreate that vibe, it’s him.

Thank you for your reply! I’ll be following with great interest if you get the chance to test the 3DME system. I’ve been hesitant to order them myself, as they are not directly available in my country and are certainly not the cheapest option.

Before making the investment, I’d like some reassurance that the device truly delivers what it promises. In particular, I’m curious about how well it works for wind instrument players in an acoustic setting, without dedicated microphones or amplification.

I did not know about these, but I think it is a brilliant idea that needs developing. I currently use Apple airpods pro in transparency mode when practicing and that does an okay job, but something specifically designed for musicians could be much better. I’m goin to try to get a pair of these and review.

Have you ever tried, or heard of, any saxophone players using the 3DME system from AsiAudio? I’m particularly interested in whether it could be a practical solution for playing acoustically in a Big Band setting, without microphones. My thought is that the built-in microphones in the earplugs might provide a more natural listening experience—allowing me to hear both my own playing and the other musicians around me—while still offering hearing protection through the limiter and volume control.

Perhaps it would still require an additional microphone for my own saxophone (such as an Intramic), but I would be very interested in your perspective.
